“We are proud to have run world-class competitions for both the athletes and spectators; however the overall economics of these events do not provide a sustainable future path,” said an official ESPN statement.
Though the new events was widely considered successful last year the event the event was reportedly dogged with financial difficulties. According to reports, the decision may be a result of the network’s company-wide job cuts and a major scaling back of its international operations.
