The Kleins — who got into a feud with Keemstar earlier this year — highlighted that a major issue with streaming on Twitch stemmed from their YouTube origins. Not only is most of their content located on the latter platform, their fanbase is mostly based there too, having been cultivated on that platform. Ethan Klein expressed his frustrations with not being able to synchronize Twitch and YouTube content where the Kleins’ contract with the former prevented them from immediately uploading to YouTube, leading to lost viewership.
Talking to the Kleins, Mizkif lamented the loss of Dr DisRespect from Twitch, who was banned from the platform in June this year for unexplained reasons. “Doc was one of the only people that had the good memes, the good jokes, the good fun,” said Mizkif. The Kleins have previously claimed that Twitch gives preferential treatment to certain streamers by letting them get away with actions that other streamers would get banned for.
Mizkif also referred to Twitch as “a dead platform.” Considering that he has co-founded a content creation organization alongside Asmongold, Esfand, Rich Campbell, and Tipsout, it appears that Mizkif is looking to secure some sort of occupational stability in the face of all the issues with the very platform he streams on.
Over the years, Twitch has become embroiled in various controversies surrounding its operation. From the aforementioned accusations of special treatment to certain streamers to the complexities of DMCA takedowns, many content creators have expressed frustration with the platform and the many threats to their occupation and the industry. While there have been attempts to go outside of the system and onto a different platform like YouTube or Facebook, Twitch remains the premier streaming site over competitors like Mixer which shut down despite securing the services of Tyler “Ninja” Blevins.
